Susanne Junker is an artist with focus on photography. Born 1973 in Germany, she lives and works in Paris, France after spending a decade in Shanghai where she founded and directed the artist run stage候台BACK. Autodidact, her work concentrates on identity and femininity.
Practicing observation of herself since early childhood, Susanne has used her own body as a canvas for interpretation of social themes, feminist and female behaviour and her own struggle with "24/7 demanded perfection" as a model in the 90ies. Since then, she embraced themes of gender identification, the objectivisation of women and the use of sexuality in media via photography, video, drawing and performance.
Her created hashtag #femaleartisthashtagsucks emphasizes that Junker’s work is based on her individuality and not her gender and underlines the seriousness of working as an artist in our society.
